One day as Kari and Brendan were walking in the mountains of Norway an idea came to Kari. Why don’t we take over the old hotel in Les Granges and turn it into a culture centre and a great place for people to meet. Being musicians by profession and having performed and lived in Switzerland for about 32 years Brendan knew the need for congenial meeting places and thought the idea was great. After many months a solution was agreed upon and the McCarthy’s took over the property. In 2013 Renovation took place and the idea began to take shape. There was restaurant on the ground floor that had been closed for about three years and good friends suggested that it should be restarted with the idea of having it as a cosy meeting place with high quality dinners desert’s and snacks. It was at this time that McCarthy’s “Lord of the burgers” was conceived. The reason being that the McCarthy’s love burgers and always wished there was a place to buy high class burgers in Chateau-d’Oex. The McCarthy daughters thought the idea of having live music, every once in a while was an awesome idea so the small stage was reconstructed for live musicians and a sound system installed. Together with an interior designer Kari redesigned the restaurant and turned it into a place to enjoy gourmet hamburgers and other delicious treats.
